“For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to announce the gospel, not in wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ be made of no effect. For the Word of the cross is foolishness to those being lost, but to us being saved, it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:17-18).
If universal atonement advocates (i.e., Arminians) believe that Christ’s cross was POWERLESS to save those in hell, then they don’t know about the power of Christ’s cross. The antithesis of this is not that Christ’s cross was POWERFUL to save those in hell; it is that Christ’s cross is POWERFUL to save all those whom He represented. The Arminians believe that Christ’s cross is POWERLESS to save everyone for whom He died. To them, the cross is of NO EFFECT in and of itself. BUT to those who are being saved Christ has the POWER to save everyone for whom He died.
The blood of Christ was shed to save every single person for whom it was shed. The fact that is DOES save every person for whom it was shed shows that it is 100% powerful — 100% effectual. Had Jesus Christ shed His blood for every single human being without exception, then every single human being without exception would be saved, since the blood of Christ is 100% powerful and 100% effectual.
Now what about those who believe that the blood of Christ was shed for every single human being without exception, yet there are some human beings who go to hell anyway? What does this say about the POWER of the blood of Christ? It says that the blood of Christ was NOT powerful enough to save. Instead, the blood of Christ needed something else — the works of man — to make it effectual. This is the damnable false gospel of salvation conditioned on the sinner.
