“Then they said, Come and let us plot schemes against Jeremiah. For the Law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor word from the prophet. Come and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not attend to any of his words” (Jeremiah 18:18).

Then said they, Come, and let us devise plots against Jeremiah; for the law (g) shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the (h) tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.
(g) This argument the wicked have always used against the servants of God. The church cannot err: we are the Church, and therefore whoever speaks against us, they ought to die, (1Ki_22:24; Jer_7:4, Jer_20:2; Mal_2:4) and thus the false Church persecutes the true Church, which stands not in outward pomp, and in multitude, but is known by the graces of the Holy Spirit.
(h) Let us slander him and accuse him: for we will be believed.
Some information on the Geneva Bible, specifically the notes:
The greatest distinction of the Geneva Bible, however, is the extensive collection of marginal notes that it contains. Prominent Reformation leaders such as John Calvin, John Knox, Miles Coverdale, William Whittingham, Theodore Beza, and Anthony Gilby wrote the majority of these notes in order to explain and interpret the scriptures. The Geneva notes speak of the false church standing in “outward pomp” and “multitude” (which reminds me of Lord White). Lord White slanders us; for he will be believed by the cowardly credulous.
The Christian Confession of Faith states the following:
E. Judging

True Christians judge by an altogether different standard than Lord White and his subservient sycophants. They are cowards:
“A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above his lord. It is enough for the disciple to become as his teacher, and the slave as his lord. If they called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household? Therefore, you should not fear them, for nothing is covered which will not be uncovered; and hidden, which will not be made known. What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light. And what you hear in the ear, proclaim on the housetops. And you should not fear the ones killing the body, but not being able to kill the soul. But rather fear Him being able to destroy both soul and body in Hell. Are not two sparrows sold for an assarion? Yet not one of them shall fall to the ground without your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Then do not fear; you are better than many sparrows. Then everyone who shall confess Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father in Heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny him before My Father in Heaven. Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. I came to divide a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a bride against her mother-in-law. Ones hostile to the man shall be those of his own house. The one loving father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And the one loving son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. “But for the cowardly and unbelieving, and those having become foul, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all the lying ones, their part will be in the Lake burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).
This is not the braggadocio and swagger of the unbelieving world. It is the believing world’s boast of the cross of Jesus Christ (boasting in who He is and what He actually accomplished at the cross for all whom He represented):
“But may it never be for me to boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world” (Galatians 6:14).
“And God chose the low-born of the world, and the despised, and the things that are not, so that He might bring to nothing the things that are, so that no flesh might glory in His presence. But of Him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, both righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that even as it has been written, He that glories, let him glory in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:28-31).
