“There ever was enmity betwixt the devil and the church, and betwixt his seed and her seed too; Michael and his angels, and the dragon and his angels, these make war continually. (Gen 3, Rev 12) There hath been great desires and endeavors among men to reconcile these two in one, to wit, the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman, but it could never yet be accomplished” (John Bunyan, The Strait Gate).
The piercing irony is that it is Calvinists like Bunyan who unwittingly sought for such a reconciliation. In the present day we see many Calvinists (e.g., John Piper, James White, Douglas Wilson) who are cavorting with the Great Whore.
