Wait Upon The Lord

“Behold, as the eyes of servants [look] unto the hand of their masters, [and] as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes [wait] upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us” (Psalm 123:2).

We look to and wait for the Lord to direct us in wisdom, righteousness, and truth. What would You have us to do, Lord Jesus? How can we glorify You in thought, word, and deed? How, Father God, through Jesus Christ, may Your people hallow Your name in all that we think, say, and do?

“Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear Jehovah and depart from evil. Healing shall be to your navel and marrow to your bones. Honor Jehovah with your substance, and with the firstfruits of all your increase, and your barns shall be filled [with] plenty, and your presses shall burst [with] new wine” (Proverbs 3:5-10).

“O Jehovah, I know that his way does not [belong] to man; [it is] not in man who walks to direct his steps” (Jeremiah 10:23).

We look to God to supply and provide our daily bread. We know that Jesus Christ is the True Bread from heaven, who became poor for our (His elect people) sake that we might have eternal riches.

“Give us today our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11).

“Remove vanity and a lying word far from me, do not give me poverty or riches; tear for me my portion of bread, that I not become satisfied and deceive, and say, Who [is] Jehovah? Or that I not become poor and steal, and violate the name of my God” (Proverbs 30:8-9).

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that being rich, He became poor for your sake, so that you might become rich by the poverty of that One” (2 Corinthians 8:9).

We look to the Lord our God for strength to magnify Jesus Christ in this short and vaporous life.

“I will bless Jehovah at all times; His praise [shall] always [be] in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in Jehovah; the humble shall hear and be glad. O magnify Jehovah with me; and let us exalt His name together. I sought Jehovah, and He answered me, and delivered me out of all my fear” (Psalm 34:1-4).

So, then, my beloved, even as you always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much rather in my absence, cultivate your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who is working in you both to will and to work for the sake of [His] good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings, that you may be blameless and harmless, children of God, without fault in the midst of a crooked generation, even having been perverted, among whom you shine as luminaries in [the] world, holding up [the] Word of Life, for a boast to me in [the] day of Christ, that I ran not in vain, nor labored in vain” (Philippians 2:12-16).

“For I know that this will result in deliverance to me through your petition and [the] supply of [the] Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but as always in all boldness even now Christ will be magnified in my body, whether through life or through death. For to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain. But if [I] live in [the] flesh, this to me [is] fruit of [my] labor, and what I shall choose I do not know. For I am pressed together by the two: having a desire to depart and be with Christ, [which is] far better, but to remain in the flesh [is] more necessary on account of you. And being persuaded of this, I know that I will remain and will continue with you all for your advancement and joy of faith, so that your glorying may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my presence with you again. Only behave yourself worthily of the gospel of Christ, so that whether coming and seeing you or being absent, I hear the things concerning you, that you stand fast in one spirit and one soul, striving together in the faith of the gospel” (Philippians 1:19-27).

We look to God for patience in persecution, knowing that it is for His glory and our good. We are appointed for many afflictions for Christ’s sake (Acts 14:22; 1 Thessalonians 3:3).

“My son, do not reject the chastening of Jehovah, and do not loathe His correction; for whom Jehovah loves He corrects, even as a father [corrects] the son [with whom] he is pleased” (Proverbs 3:11-12).

“Blessed are you when they shall reproach you, and persecute [you], and shall say every evil word against you, lying, on account of Me. Rejoice and leap for joy, for your reward [is] great in Heaven; for in this way they persecuted the prophets who were before you” (Matthew 5:11-12).

“For consider Him who had endured such gainsaying of sinners against Himself, that you do not grow weary, fainting in your souls. You did not yet resist unto blood, wrestling against sin. And you have forgotten the exhortation which [He] speaks with you, as with sons, My sons, do not despise the chastening of [the] Lord, nor faint [while] being corrected by Him. For whom the Lord loves, He disciplines, and whips every son whom He receives. If you endure discipline, God is dealing with you as with sons; for who is [the] son whom a father does not discipline? But if you are without discipline, of which all have become sharers, then you are bastards, and not sons. Furthermore, indeed we have had fathers of our flesh as correctors, and we respected [them]. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits, and we shall live? For they truly disciplined [us] for a few days according to the thing seeming good to them; but He for [our] profit, [in order for us] to partake of His holiness. And all discipline for the present indeed does not seem to be joyous, but grievous; but afterward it gives back peaceable fruit of righteousness to the ones having been exercised by it” (Hebrews 12:3-11).

“Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassions and God of all comfort, the [One] comforting us on all our affliction, for us to be able to comfort those in every affliction, through the comfort by which we ourselves are comforted by God. Because even as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so also our comfort abounds through Christ” (2 Corinthians 1:3-5).
